National AI Strategy

National AI Strategy

The UK's National AI Strategy, published in 2021, outlines a vision to strengthen the UK's position as a leading AI nation over the next decade.

It focuses on three key pillars:

  1. Investing in and planning for the long-term needs of the AI ecosystem to maintain leadership in science and AI.
  2. Supporting the transition to an AI-enabled economy to ensure that AI benefits all sectors and regions.
  3. Ensuring proper national and international governance of AI technologies to encourage innovation, investment, and protect fundamental values.

The strategy aims to secure access to skilled individuals, data, computing resources, and private capital essential for AI research and development. It also emphasizes the importance of a strong domestic AI supply chain and supporting businesses and individuals to adapt to the opportunities presented by AI. Additionally, it highlights the need for a pro-innovation governance regime that safeguards fundamental values while promoting innovation.
